Review
My initial thoughts on this book were extremely high, I enjoyed the story the whole way through. Really being sucked into being Holly and was she is going through but also Tyler. Although I feel that the novel dragged along with trying to teach us a lesson about social media and our presence. I believe that not enough time was put in to making this the thriller that everyone wanted to read upon.
The novel begins with a captivating and gruesome first chapter which really drove me froward into reading this book, almost finishing the book in the first day that i decided to read it. It was really intense and mind blowing experience for someone who did not read what the novel was about in the first place. I wish and was expecting the same intensity throughout the book but there wasn't as much of it as the first chapter. I think their could have been more excitement and ways to make this an even better thriller by turning the 'twists' that became to be predictable really sinister and dark. The moral of the book was heart warming and sensitive, to bring awareness to what social media can do and what the definition of being normal is. That we need to stop caring so much about what other people think of us on social media.
I loved the idea of the story in this novel, however all of the parts of the novel that were supposed to be shocking were predictable, some great ways these could have turned in a more intense and drastic way.
As for the writing of the novel it was high quality and Heydenrych has an eloquent way of writing and her character building was fer nominal. I felt that we really got to step into Holly, Tyler and even Zanna's shoes and take on their personalities and feelings. We really got to know them for them. One of the things that intrigued me was that I found both of the main characters unlikable but I loved to see the paths and their interactions and how they played out in the novel. However, looking at the writing as a whole the amount of repetition dragged and each chapter became just like the last; how scared Holly was. How much Tyler hated Holly and missed Frankie. It became a repeat of these feelings and their weren't a lot to differentiate them from each other.
Although, I have negative opinions on the book, I didn't hate it, I still loved the book. It was truly gripping at times, there was enough in the book to keep me entertained until I finished it and i did enjoy the characters that were built.
This book worked well for me because of my teenage age group. Social media is a big part of my age group and I believe in social media being a mask to hide your identity and emotions. Its a cover up to try and be perfect. This book would work well for readers who are into stuff less twisty and also who understand social media, it was such a big eye opener this book to how I posted on social media, to get the likes the attention and to feel like I fitted into a certain category.
